Pencil pillow / Pieštuko pagalvė

Summer passed by faster than a train. And I might have missed that train. But autumn is here and I hope to get on to the another train. My plans for the summer were big. I had such a long list. But well... life happens. And I'm not sorry or sad that I didn't make it with that train. I just have to get on another one. Okay, enough about trains. Since it's September and it's school time, I wanna share a pencil pillow that I made back while I was still in school.

This one is really fun. It's quite big and so comfy to lie on. One of the fun facts about this pillow is that I made it before I even knew what quilting was. I had just learned sewing and made my first tablecloth. Then it was time for a pillow. And the size is perfect for a queen bed.

Man jį taip patiko gaminti.

But with a lot of usage an accident happened. I tore a hole in it. I was so sad, but my teacher suggested on how to fix it. So it turned out to be my name written with a mini pencil. It's mini! And it was so fun to make.

Mini! Kai man taip patinka mini daiktai, tai tikrai mėgavausi gamindama jį.

It usually sat on my sisters bed, because hers is the queen size. And mine is only twin. But since I moved to study in Vilnius and now I have a queen size bed I just might take it with me. Actually this idea just came to me. But it's a nice one.

Šiaip ši idėja man va tik gimė. Bet ji man patinka.

A mini bottle from twine and quince seeds

Today I want to show you one more decoration with natural materials. This time it's a mini bottle. I loved the form of it and it was small. How could I resist decorating it?

This one is made of twine and quince seeds. This is one of my favorite combinations. I just love the contrast these two components create.

Happy Friday!

First Swap experience!

Finally I participated in a swap. I've been searching for one for a while. And just around December I found one on Instagram. Theme of this swap was a #rainbowminiswap.  International participants were welcomed so I jumped right in. And now when it's almost over I can say that my first experience was amazing. Kate Basti was the organizing this one, and everything was amazing. I got every information I needed. I knew I could ask my swap mama Tiffany anything and she would gladly help me.

I knew my partner was into hexagons so I decided to try the modern hexies technique. I've been meaning to try a tutorial from Modern Handcraft. And so this is what it turned out into.

I'm so in love with this technique, can't wait to try something else.
And my mini is still on the way to my partner, I hope she likes it.

I also made few extras. This one is my favorite. Mini hexie strap. It's from denim.

And on Saturday morning my mini came. I unpacked it in seconds to see what amazing job I got. And I couldn't be any happier.

It was made by Jennifer. She blogs at Quilter in the Closet. She did such an amazing job, I love it so much. All those tiny squares. I can't actually stop admiring her work. I was really blessed to get such partner.

Even the backing is amazing.

Some fabric from USA was in order. Love them, don't know what to make. Thinking about a pillow or some potholders or maybe even a mini. So much possibilities.

And all the extra she sent me, I love it. I wondered if I should wait to photograph my chocolate.

And if that was it, I wish. Few days latter I signed on another swap on IG. This one is called Beach Bound Mini Quilt Swap. Meredith is organizing it if you want to join.(Sign Ups open till 04.15)

I'm back!

I am back! So happy to have my computer back. I can't believe I managed to live so long without it. But now I know anything is possible.. So let's get into some progress. I had so much work at school so a lot of crafty stuff suffered. But I did managed to finish some.

At my club we decided to do a joint project. We had to make 3 minis for each participant. I did them in a hurry, so I'm not really proud the way it turned out. But I love that the club participation make me push myself to remember crafting.

Also sun is showing up. I tend to believe a spring is coming. I can't wait to go outside and enjoy sun. If only I had less stuff to do.

And can you imagine. Only 7 day difference between these weathers. I thought I'll go crazy without sun, but it showed up.

Also I have an amazing roommate. You can visit her blog. One day we decided to make some spring rolls, well, she decided, I'm not that creative in food field. And so we tried. OMG, it turned out to be really delicious.

That's it for now. Hope to be back soon with more project and fun stuff to share.

Potholder for my Aunt

I admit I'm missing form her, but the work is going on behind the scenes. I have two more days to prepare for my collage works review. When everything is done I promise to share.
So I decided to sneak in and share one of this years finishes, that's a mug rug. For Christmas I wanted to do some handmade gifts for my aunt and cousin. Since my aunts gift was smaller I started with it. Here is what I did:

I got my idea for a design from here. But made the calculations myself. And this is how large it turned out to be.

Since I love mini things I really enjoyed working with such small size HSTs. But still... they're tiny:

My aunt loved it. And that's what made me happy.

With this project I also tried to press seams open. But somehow I didn't really enjoy it. I think I did something wrong and that's why it was a mess. Well, I'll take a look at the tutorials for pressing seams open, and maybe I'll try again.

I admit I had to do it for Christmas, but I couldn't make it in time. But I met my aunt after New Year and gifted this little one, She really loved it. She actually chose the design while looking into my design notebook, of course she had no idea I was going to make her something, so it was a surprise. I knew her favorite colors were light blue and yellow, so I went only with those two. It turned out great! My aunt is in love with it! And that's what makes me happy.

One gift made and one left. I planed to make two simple pillows for my cousin. But only the design and math is done. They are really simple, so I plan to whip them up in the next week. After my review is done. And that's on Monday, so I am of to work. See you then.

Best wishes,
