Towards The Blue Dream / Mėlynos svajonės link

It's finally finished, I guess it took me some time to share, but when I found out that our exhibition was not in the spring, I put this quilt away. And I wanted to finish it in summer, while I had some free time, but like always I didn't, I just did some small details. And as soon as I put hanging sleeves on I had to take pictures. And in the end I was finishing it few weeks before exhibition. So I'm ready to introduce you to this quilt.

I've mentioned it quite often. First part, second part. This quilt brought me a lot of problems. I remember how long it took for me to realize that I can't possible put all of it under my machine and quilt it all together. But with every mistake I learned a lot.

Jau daug esu jį minėjusi ir rodžiusi. Pirma dalis, antra dalis.

I called it second denim quilt, but I needed a name for the exhibition, and I managed to came up with "Towards the Blue Dream". And I love this name, it fits perfectly. Everything I make brings me closer to my dream, and those blocks even remind me about stairs and that you have to climb one step at a time.

This quilt is nowhere near my wanted perfection, it's actually quite bulky and have a lot of imperfections, but that's okay. Because it's handmade and not mass product that are usually perfect in every seam. Because it's mine. Because I love it this way. Because it's just like a road to dreams, there are some mistakes on the way, but you always manage to climb up one stair more.

I'm so glad to have it off my back. It has been a WIP for so long. But I loved working with denim, so much that I already started planing one more denim quilt with this technique.

It's size is 257 x 176 cm. Or 101 x 70 inches. Long but, not wide. I love quilts that are about 200 x 200 cm (80 x 80 inches). Just like my picnic quilt. But this one was made especially for the bed. And it fits perfectly (minus it being too long, sometimes you have to do sacrifices for the design).

Jo dydis 257 x 176 cm. Ilgas, bet ne platus. Man labiau patinka 2 ant 2 metrų skiautiniai.

I made this quilt with intention to lay it down on my sisters bed, on mine is my first denim quilt. It's quite big on the end part, but the composition was so perfect that I wanted to keep it like that. And I just fold the end when I want to put it on the bed. And my denim pillow and hexie denim pillow look perfect all together.

First Swap experience!

Finally I participated in a swap. I've been searching for one for a while. And just around December I found one on Instagram. Theme of this swap was a #rainbowminiswap.  International participants were welcomed so I jumped right in. And now when it's almost over I can say that my first experience was amazing. Kate Basti was the organizing this one, and everything was amazing. I got every information I needed. I knew I could ask my swap mama Tiffany anything and she would gladly help me.

I knew my partner was into hexagons so I decided to try the modern hexies technique. I've been meaning to try a tutorial from Modern Handcraft. And so this is what it turned out into.

I'm so in love with this technique, can't wait to try something else.
And my mini is still on the way to my partner, I hope she likes it.

I also made few extras. This one is my favorite. Mini hexie strap. It's from denim.

And on Saturday morning my mini came. I unpacked it in seconds to see what amazing job I got. And I couldn't be any happier.

It was made by Jennifer. She blogs at Quilter in the Closet. She did such an amazing job, I love it so much. All those tiny squares. I can't actually stop admiring her work. I was really blessed to get such partner.

Even the backing is amazing.

Some fabric from USA was in order. Love them, don't know what to make. Thinking about a pillow or some potholders or maybe even a mini. So much possibilities.

And all the extra she sent me, I love it. I wondered if I should wait to photograph my chocolate.

And if that was it, I wish. Few days latter I signed on another swap on IG. This one is called Beach Bound Mini Quilt Swap. Meredith is organizing it if you want to join.(Sign Ups open till 04.15)

Catch Up!

I'm not dead. But my computer still is. But now I realize that's a positive thing. I have a lot more free time. No worries I'll try to jump once a week and share my progress. And so let's start. This weekend I started to do a painting with natural materials. I love those. I would love to share what it is and tell you more about it, but my pictures and additional info is on my computer. Bummer. Yep.. that's a minus for having your computer broken.

I also started a shelf runner :) just playing with words here :)

I made some progress on #rainbowminiswap that's going on at the instagram.

And the best thing that happened is that I finished my denim quilt. And I gave it a name. Because Second Denim Quilt doesn't sound... "Towards the Blue Dream" is the new name. Another bummer is that I have no photos. I have nowhere to hang it or fully lay, at this moment. And I still need to make a hanging sleeve. I love a video tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company. You can find a lot of their great tutorials on youtube.

I hope to see you next week,
Best wishes,

Computer problems and WIPs

I've been gone for some time now. And actually with a quite good reason in hand. My computer crashed. It just stopped working and I was really scared I was going to lose all my materials from it. And when I gave it to be fixed I was told it was a mechanical problem and my internal memory is perfectly intact. So I left it to be fixed, which was about a month ago. Until now I‘ve been living without it. And I don’t know how long I’ll have to be without it. I hope it’ll be only about 1-2 weeks, but who knows.

And so today I borrowed my sisters’ computer and I want to share some of my stuff.

I have been working on my denim quilt like crazy, not just me I had some help. My bunny helped me. Her name is Lulu.

I’ve been trying out a mosaic technique. It’s a good project to keep it on hand while traveling. It doesn’t require sewing machine.

I also started my mini quilt for ‘rainbow mini swap’ which is in Instagram. I plan to do some hexies so they are coming along pretty well.

This semester my collage schedule is crazy I have few days that I work from 9 to 6, so I need to eat and so I’ve tried my first bento box. It was so fun and perfect to carry to my collage. I plan to do it more often.

And so life goes on. I can’t wait to get back my computer and I am already planning what to post about first.

Have a nice day.

Best wishes, Dovile
